Reception at St. Paul’s Catholic Primary School, Billingham have enjoyed an exciting week exploring their popular topic: People Who Help Us. This learning came to life in a very special way when two expert visitors joined the children in school.

We were delighted to welcome Nigel and Melissa, members of the construction team currently building our brand‑new school building. Their visit captured the children’s imaginations from the moment they arrived!

Nigel and Melissa shared:

  • What the new St Paul’s school building will look like
  • How builders stay safe on busy construction sites
  • Information about the amazing machinery they use every day

The children were fascinated and full of thoughtful questions. Inspired by what they learned, Reception went on to take part in a range of exciting, hands‑on activities, including drawing their own building plans, mixing their own “cement”, building walls using classroom resources and constructing incredible models using real‑life construction materials.

The classroom was buzzing with creativity as the children explored, constructed and imagined themselves as real builders. This visit was a wonderful chance for our Reception children to meet people who help shape our community and to learn directly from experts. A huge thank‑you to Nigel and Melissa for giving our youngest learners such an unforgettable experience.
