St. Paul’s Catholic Primary School was proud to join the excitement of the bicentenary of the world’s first passenger railway – and what an adventure it was!
Our Year 6 pupils had an incredible day visiting Hopetown in Darlington to celebrate this historic milestone. They explored the fascinating history of railways and enjoyed a thrilling train ride, which was a real highlight of the trip! The STEAM to the Future Exhibition in the Carriage Works was packed with amazing ideas and inventions, sparking imaginations and inspiring the engineers of tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 took part in a magical storytelling workshop with author Caroline Hardie, who brought her delightful book Little Loco’s Big Day Out to life. The fun continued in the ‘All Aboard’ exhibition, where interactive play helped children connect with the bicentenary celebrations in a hands-on way. To top it off, they explored the beautiful autumnal grounds, soaking up nature and history all at once.
This was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to experience the past in a meaningful and memorable way. Here’s to 200 years of railway history and inspiring the next generation of innovators!
