Welcome to Year 2

Class Teacher: Mrs Miller and Mrs Craft

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Mavi

Mrs Miller and Mrs Craft are the class teachers in Year 2. Mrs Miller is in Class 2 from Monday until Thursday morning when Mrs Tattersdill teaches PE on Thursday afternoon.  Mrs Craft teaches Year 2 on Friday.  Our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Mavi who works with the children each day in our classroom to support our learning. Our class is a friendly, happy and exciting place to learn. We have everything that we need nearby and have practical exploration areas in our classroom to support our topic work. We also love to display our work and enhance our learning through classroom displays and art & design. All the children are encouraged to look after our classroom and keep our resources tidy.

Our day begins with our class prayers and welcome. We take part in Celebration of the Word each day either in class as a Key Stage or as a whole school. In Key Stage One, we follow the Read, Write Inc Phonics programme. Once the children finish the programme, they follow our Whole Class Guided Reading sessions. We love reading and have a wide variety of engaging texts in our lovely reading area. Children also take home a reading book for home reading. We have guided reading sessions in class as well as support with our home reading.

We have very busy days in Year 2 with tasks that help us daily with our reading, English and Mathematics. Our Curriculum is broad and exciting, and it helps us to learn about the world around us as well as important people and events in history. We enjoy PE which takes place on Thursday afternoons. We also enjoy our active lessons and brain breaks. We have a dedicated lesson each week of PHSE which helps us to develop our personal, social, health and citizenship education. Please see our newsletter for more curriculum information.

We love to celebrate our achievements. Each week someone is presented with ‘Star of the Week’  for achievements in attitude to learning as well as ‘Handwriter of the Week’. We also celebrate daily with ‘Dojo’ points.

We hope that you have enjoyed reading all about Year 2. I’m sure that you will agree that it is an exciting place to learn.
