Welcome to Year 5

Class teacher: Miss Wilberforce

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Mavi

In Year 5 we are enthusiastic, helpful and hardworking learners who support each other to demonstrate the determination to become the best we can be! We try to be the best we can be by being resilient learners who recognise when things are difficult but continue to persevere. We try to support each other, showing compassion to others and recognising our differences. We have a safe and nurturing classroom environment, where every child has their thoughts and opinions valued. As a result, our classroom is a pleasant place to learn where we develop good relationships and grow together.

As we move further up the school it is important that we are excellent role models for younger children and become more independent learners. We therefore look forward to taking on extra responsibilities such as being School Librarians, effective School and Sports Council members and Minnie Vinnies.

In Year 5 we approach all aspects of the curriculum with enthusiasm. We have exciting and engaging subjects to learn about in Year 5 such as the Ancient Maya, North America and World War II! We link art, design technology and other practical activities to these units to make the subjects really come to life. We are extremely passionate about reading and believe it is the key to learning. We love to read for pleasure and we are always eager to share book recommendations with each other.

Our outstanding behaviour, work and effort is recognised in various ways. We are proud to be awarded dojo points for class-based activities. A ‘Star of the Week’ certificate is also presented on a weekly basis to celebrate the fantastic work, efforts and attitudes we have in Year 5. Our teachers are always looking out for great hand writers too for our weekly ‘Handwriting award’!

We have a very busy timetable. Please view our current Newsletter for further Curriculum information.
