Welcome Parents
About Year 1

Welcome to Year 1. Miss Carnaby is the class teacher in Year 1. Our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Ellison and Miss Hewitt who help support our learning.

Our class is a friendly and happy place to learn. We have a cloakroom space and toilets nearby. We also have areas in our class for construction, craft, investigation, reading, writing and number work.

Each day we begin our morning with a class prayer. We use Read Write Inc to help us with our reading and writing and practical resources with our Maths work. Our wider curriculum areas help us develop knowledge of the world around us and as well as important events in history. We also celebrate daily Collective Worship and enjoy a full afternoon of PE every week.

We have reading books to take home and spellings to learn weekly. Homework is half termly and delivered through an exciting choice of a homework menu.

Our outstanding behaviour, effort and work is recognised in various ways. Dojo points are individually awarded for class-based activities, e.g. giving excellent answers and working hard. A ‘Star of the Week’ certificate is also presented each week to a member of Class 1 who has excelled or stood out from the rest of the class whether that be for effort, behaviour or attitude.

We hope you have enjoyed reading about Year 1 and we are sure you will agree it is a great place to be.
