Our school is an overtly Catholic community of faith. It bears witness to the Gospel values of mutual respect, love, forgiveness, hope and the development of the gifts and abilities which each one of us has.
Welcoming and inclusive, our school family encourage one another to love, grow, share, learn and achieve highly to experience success in life. We encourage our children to be resilient and happy, and to know they can be anything they want to be.
Our rich curriculum has been planned and sequenced to encourage an ambitious, sustainable thirst for knowledge and understanding, and a love of learning. We want young, lively and enquiring minds to engage in a stimulating curriculum which ‘educates the whole child.’
The intent of our rich and engaging curriculum is to provide breadth for every pupil. It considers the needs of our children; the experiences we offer ensures they benefit from enhanced academic, spiritual, moral, social and cultural enrichment. Being proud of British values and the diversity of society, provides richness to their lives and those of our whole school community.
We place high priority on the physical and mental wellbeing of children as we believe that children can only become successful learners if they are physically and emotionally healthy. Therefore, we carefully design our curriculum with a flexible approach to timetabling to ensure that we can meet and respond to the needs of our children. We aim to help children develop an awareness of their working memory and the importance of being mentally healthy.
Curriculum balance is not at the expense of high standards; emphasis is rightly placed on acquiring, developing and applying the core skills in reading, writing, communication and mathematics. We aim for the highest of standards to ensure that all children are ready to progress to the next stage of their education so that they can achieve highly, experience success and live life in its fullness.
As well as breadth, we also plan for depth of learning. We intend to incorporate many opportunities to revisit learning to deepen it over time. New knowledge and skills build upon what has been taught before and towards defined end points. We recognise that learning does not stop when children reach the end of their primary years; to that end, our curriculum design has looked carefully at Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 transition to ensure that children have continuity in their learning.
Our curriculum widens and deepens knowledge and understanding enabling children to know more and remember more and develop a life-long love of learning. This is our measure of success and the intent of our curriculum design.
